CEFALY Partners with the Green Beret Foundation to Support Special Forces Members with Migraine

Eligible Active Duty Green Berets and family members of current and former Green Berets now have a new, no-cost migraine treatment option. The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) has partnered with CEFALY Technology to provide access to CEFALY’s clinically proven, drug-free migraine treatment.

How the partnership works

Active duty Special Operations personnel interested in seeking the CEFALY treatment must enroll into the US Special Operations Command Warrior Care Program (WCP) to determine eligibility. The WCP is a Department of Defense program that provides Special Operations Forces (SOF) wounded, ill, or injured service members and their families advocacy after life changing events in order to navigate through recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration back into active duty services or civilian life.

Once eligibility has been confirmed, WCP will submit a request to the Green Beret Foundation to work with CEFALY to provide the device and migraine treatment kit free of charge.

Eligible family members must request the migraine treatment kit using the Green Beret Foundation’s Request Support form. Once eligibility has been confirmed, the Green Beret Foundation will work with CEFALY to provide the device and migraine treatment kit free of charge.

GBF is the premier nonprofit organization that provides direct assistance to Green Berets and their families, serving both pre-9/11 and post-9/11 soldiers. Its health and wellness initiative supplements the care provided by the Military Health System (MHS) and Veterans Health Administration (VA).

“We take a holistic approach to health and wellness,” explains Anna Richardson, GBF’s Director of Programs and Services. The Foundation covers certain healthcare costs and treatments that aren’t covered by TRICARE or the Veterans Health Administration, as long as those treatments are backed by research and medical recommendations. “CEFALY is a great fit for that,” Richardson says.

CEFALY and the military

More than 10% of the world population is estimated to have migraine, a debilitating neurological condition that can cause severe headache with nausea, light and sound sensitivity, and other symptoms. In veterans and military service members, the prevalence is higher; one study found migraine/chronic daily headaches in 20% or more of the post-9/11 combat veteran population.

CEFALY can be a preferred treatment for migraine for military service members and veterans because it’s an easy-to-use, drug-free option with minimal side effects. Prescription migraine medications, on the other hand, can cause serious side effects such as fatigue, insomnia, dizziness and nausea.

The Green Beret Foundation works only with active-duty military and their families in securing CEFALY. If you’re a veteran with migraine, VA healthcare benefits can fully cover treatment with CEFALY. Make an appointment with the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) or Neurology department at your nearest VA Hospital. If your healthcare provider determines that CEFALY could be a good treatment option for you, they’ll submit an order for you to receive your CEFALY migraine treatment kit.

About the Green Beret Foundation

The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) provides all generations of U.S. Army Special Forces Soldiers and their families with emergency, immediate, and ongoing support. GBF assists over 5,000 Special Forces families each year. Since its inception in 2009, GBF has invested 85%, or 85 cents of every dollar, into its programs and services, totaling over $16 million, directly supporting the Regiment and its families. GBF is the only nonprofit solely dedicated to supporting Green Berets and their families that has achieved a 4-Star Rating with Charity Navigator. Also, GBF is the sole special operations nonprofit accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs to prepare, file, and appeal disability claims.
